Katie Baudouin
Orleans Parish School Board
District 5

About Katie
Katie Baudouin represents District 5 and is the current President of the Orleans Parish School Board. As a public school parent she believes all students in New Orleans deserve a quality education.
Katie's career working in state and local government and for nonprofit organizations inspired her to serve on the school board. She helped to advance policies aimed at improving quality of life for all Louisiana families while working at the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations. Later she worked to increase Medicaid enrollment and eligibility at the Louisiana Department of Health and National Academy for State Health Policy.
Katie served for more than three years as staff to two New Orleans City Councilmembers, Stacy Head and Joe Giarrusso, where she drafted legislation, led on land use matters, and helped to ensured that public money was being spent wisely.
Katie earned a Master of Public Administration from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Loyola University New Orleans. She also serves as the Board Chair of Invest In Louisiana (formerly Louisiana Budget Project.)
Katie lives with her two daughters and two cats in the Touro-Bouligny neighborhood of Uptown New Orleans.
Quality
All students deserve to attend a great school of their choice. Quality education allows students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for personal growth and a fulfilling life.
Katie supported the clear and consistent accountability standards included in the updated Charter School Accountability Framework (CSAF). These standards encourage growth and prioritize academic achievement for all students.
Transparency
The school board budget is complicated and much of the revenue is dependent on decisions made by the Legislature, City Council, and other outside entities. Katie believes a better informed public empowers everyone to advocate for adequate school funding.
Katie worked with partners to pass legislation requiring private companies to inform the school board when they plan to apply for a tax reduction.
Fiscal Responsibility
All New Orleanians have a financial stake in the public school system and want to trust that public resources are managed wisely.
Katie led work to develop a plan to lease or sell surplus property owned by the school board. Bringing these buildings back into commerce will reduce maintenance and insurance costs to the school system while eliminating blight.
Sustainability
Katie believes the Orleans Parish School Board should play a role in building a sustainable future for New Orleans.
Katie works with local and federal partners to identify resources for schools. She successfully advocated for federal funding to support electric school buses and charging infrastructure, community solar projects, and energy efficiency upgrades to school facilities.
